I remember the time when I was first starting out in the hospitality field; it was such an amazing industry to be influenced by. I remember when I started my college education majoring in hospitality; my mind was hugely open to learning everything and anything I could about the industry. So when Jared, a co-worker and friend, asked me to write a recommendation for him to be accepted into a hospitality career academy program; those memories of being young and eager to learn came flooding back. Of course I gave him a great recommendation and he got accepted!
In conjunction with The Ritz-Carlton and The Classic Center, the week long program gave nine Georgia area high school and college students the chance to listen to industry professional speakers, job shadow and work in leadership roles. They also gained experience in marketing, business, culinary arts, and event planning. After all the learning they put on their very own event, which Jared invited me to attend. Each student had their own role in producing the event, which was the 10th Annual Hospitality Careers Academy Luncheon.
Each student gave a short speech outlining what their responsibility was, what they had learned and what they planned to do in the future. I was so very happy of Jared and I could tell he had that same spark that I had, when I first started out. I can’t wait to see what becomes of his future; he says he wants to manage his own hotel.
I wish all the best to you Jared and all you other students; learn as much as you can and become an expert in your field! The hospitality field is filled with endless opportunity; go out there and experience it!
Until next time,
